CA Foundation is the first level of CA. For a Class 12 commerce student, about half of its syllabus is already familiar, so starting alongside your boards is a smart move.
The four papers
| Paper | Subject | Linked to Class 12? |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Accounting | Yes, the next step after Class 11–12 Accountancy |
| 2 | Business Laws | New subject |
| 3 | Quantitative Aptitude (Maths, Logical Reasoning, Statistics) | Partly, if you studied Maths |
| 4 | Business Economics | Yes, builds on Class 11–12 Economics |
When to register
You can register for CA Foundation with ICAI after Class 12, or provisionally after Class 10. Every attempt has a registration deadline, so check the deadline for your target attempt on the ICAI website.
Managing both with your boards
- Until the board exam: focus fully on your boards. Strong Accountancy and Economics preparation is itself the foundation for CA Foundation Papers 1 and 4.
- Right after the boards: start Business Laws and Quantitative Aptitude, since these are new.
- Accounting and Economics: practise from the ICAI study material and MTPs, because the paper follows their pattern.
A tip from Sir: the chapter you memorised without understanding in Class 12 will trouble you most in CA Foundation. Get the concept right now.
